Argentina’s head coach Lionel Scaloni has responded to Raphinha’s contentious remark regarding “kicking ass” ahead of the World Cup qualifying match on Tuesday (25). Rather than stoking the rivalry, Scaloni highlighted the camaraderie between Messi and Neymar as a model for what he hopes to see on the pitch.
“I haven’t closely examined the comments, but I’ve certainly heard some remarks. It’s Argentina-Brazil, an important fixture, yet it’s fundamentally a football match,” Scaloni stated during a press conference on Monday.

“I recall the moment after the 2021 Copa América, with Leo (Messi) and Neymar sitting on the steps of the Maracanã. That is the image we should cherish,” he continued.
Argentina will face Brazil at the Monumental de Núñez on Tuesday in the 14th round of qualifying, with La Albiceleste needing only a draw to secure their spot in the World Cup.

Raphinha stirred the atmosphere ahead of the match during an interview with Romario on Romario TV. “We’ll beat them up, no question! On the pitch and off it, if necessary,” declared the Brazilian forward.
Scaloni also addressed concerns regarding potential acts of racism that may affect Brazil’s players.
“That issue is understandably beyond our scope. It’s not something we contemplate. We hope that fans supporting Argentina, as well as those cheering for Brazil, can do so with respect,” he remarked.
