As the Serie A season approaches its conclusion, Napoli sit atop the table, with their fans and manager, Antonio Conte, singularly focused on maintaining that position. This was highlighted by Conte in comments made on Saturday.
Even though his team boasts a three-point cushion over Inter Milan, speculation continues to swirl regarding Conte’s future at Napoli, despite a remarkable season that has surpassed everyone’s expectations.
During a press conference ahead of Sunday’s home clash against Genoa, when asked if supporters were inquiring about his prospects beyond this season, Conte referenced a well-known Italian tune in his reply.
“Believe me, at this moment the fans aren’t asking me that question,” Conte said with a grin.
“What they are asking, apart from extending their gratitude, is whether we will secure a win. And I assure them we will certainly give it our best shot, as we have been doing. That’s their primary concern.
“The rest? It’s just noise, as Franco Califano sang, ‘Everything else is noise.’“
Napoli are set to take the field against Genoa while fully aware of Inter’s ongoing match away at Torino.
“No matter what, there will be pressure; we must channel it positively to stay focused, driven, and motivated,” Conte remarked.
“I believe the final two matches will occur simultaneously, which could play to our advantage.
“Whether we play first or later, the outcome remains unchanged—we must concentrate on our own performance.
Conte also provided insights regarding the team’s injury updates.
“Stanislav Lobotka rejoined the squad yesterday and trained again today; we’ll conduct a fitness test tomorrow morning to make the best decision moving forward,” he explained.
“David Neres was partially involved in training yesterday, and I anticipate he can be included on the bench to experience the atmosphere once more.
“Alessandro Buongiorno is still sidelined, and Juan Jesus, who is keen to return, insists he is fit, but the medical team is being cautious.
When asked about the key factors contributing to Napoli’s success, Conte stated, “It all starts with the mindset.“
“The expectations from fans require heart, which we possess in abundance, and of course, our legs must be fit. But it all begins and revolves around the head.“
