Real Madrid is set to create another unforgettable evening at the Santiago Bernabeu as they aim to overturn a significant deficit in their Champions League quarter-final clash against Arsenal, manager Carlo Ancelotti stated on Tuesday.
Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice netted two stunning free kicks, leading the Premier League side to a 3-0 triumph over the reigning champions, Real, in the first leg at the Emirates Stadium last week, putting them on the brink of a semi-final berth.
Despite this setback, Real Madrid, the record 15-time European champions, have clinched six Champions League titles since 2009 and are renowned for their remarkable recoveries during knockout stages of the tournament.
The Spanish giants have previously overturned deficits against clubs like Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City, and VfL Wolfsburg in recent seasons—all at their iconic Bernabeu home.
“The Bernabeu possesses a certain magic; everyone knows it’s an extraordinary atmosphere. Tomorrow, we need to bring a little bit of everything—quality and a fully rounded performance in terms of physicality and teamwork. None of these elements can falter,” Ancelotti remarked to reporters.
“Madrid has the ability to reverse this tie. We possess the quality, the determination, the experience, and the support of our fans. The ingredients are all there; now it’s time to fully utilise them…”
“(Playing at the Bernabeu) is crucial as the support from our fans has been immensely beneficial. Tomorrow will be no different; we need to perform at our highest level to attempt to turn the tie around. It’s a tough challenge at the moment, but we’ll strive to change that.”
‘WELL-STRUCTURED’ ARSENAL
Real has yet to secure a Champions League victory against Arsenal in their three previous encounters, with the Gunners hunting for their first semi-final spot since 2009.
“I would describe them as a very well-structured team,” Ancelotti commented.
“While they may not be the most experienced side, they possess a clear approach both defensively and offensively. They are very focused on their game plan and that focus takes precedence over the atmosphere.”
Real midfielder Jude Bellingham expressed that the Spanish team is eager for the challenge ahead.
“I’ve been hearing it over and over since last week, and I’ve seen countless videos—it’s incredibly motivating,” the England international told reporters.
“This is a night tailor-made for Real Madrid. A night that could be etched in history, something that resonates with people in this part of the world. Hopefully, we can create another extraordinary moment.”
