Carlo Ancelotti’s tenure at Real Madrid appears to be approaching its conclusion. According to a report from Sky Sports on Thursday, the 65-year-old Italian coach is set to depart following the Copa del Rey final, which is scheduled for April 26.
The team’s exit from the Champions League quarter-finals may ultimately dictate Ancelotti’s future, despite him having a contract that runs until 2026.
This potential departure opens up an opportunity for the Brazilian Football Confederation, which has long sought Ancelotti’s services. Previously, they were required to explore other options as the Italian was not inclined to leave the Madrid club before the Club World Cup.
In his second stint at Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti is experiencing a challenging season. While the Merengues secured the European Super Cup and the Intercontinental Cup, they faced disappointment by losing the Spanish Super Cup and being knocked out in the Champions League quarter-finals. Nevertheless, they have reached the final of the Copa del Rey and currently sit second in LaLiga, trailing leaders Barcelona by four points with seven matches remaining.
Throughout his time at Santiago Bernabéu (from 2013 to 2015 and again since 2021), Ancelotti has celebrated an impressive haul of silverware, including three Champions League titles, three European Super Cups, one Intercontinental Cup, two Club World Cups, two LaLiga championships, two Copa del Rey trophies, and two Spanish Super Cups.
