The NSW Waratahs have strengthened their backrow with the acquisition of former Wallabies star Pete Samu, who has signed a two-year contract.
Samu, now aged 33, is currently playing for Bordeaux in France, where he played a crucial role in propelling the Top 14 side to the Champions Cup final against Northampton, set to take place on May 24 in Cardiff.
Waratahs head coach Dan McKellar has previously collaborated with Samu during his tenures with the ACT Brumbies and the Wallabies.

With 33 Test caps to his name, Samu is in the frame for a possible return against the British and Irish Lions later this year.
He spent a brief period in a Waratahs training squad while also playing for Randwick.
“My family and I are thrilled to be coming home. While we’ve enjoyed our time in France, we feel it’s the right moment to return to Australia,” Samu stated.
“Coming back to Sydney feels like a full-circle moment; it’s where my journey into professional rugby began, and I’m eager to reconnect with Dan and the Waratahs, a team I believe is moving in a positive direction.
“I am also incredibly motivated by the upcoming opportunities in Australian rugby and will be working hard to ensure I’m in contention for them and to secure another chance to wear the gold jersey.”
Samu’s signing will help compensate for Angus Bell’s decision to join Ulster next season.

“He’s a player who offers a unique advantage. He’s an athletic backrower with exceptional skills. He has the ability to change a game and can play across eight, seven, or six,” McKellar added.
“He has experience at Test level and has had an impressive season with Bordeaux in France.
“I believe he’ll be a fantastic addition to our squad. He may be a reserved individual, but he lets his actions speak for themselves. I look forward to collaborating with Pete again.”
