Patrick Reed may be perceived as the villain of golf, but he truly stole the spotlight at LIV Adelaide on Friday.
The tournament had only just begun, less than 10 minutes in, when the controversial American celebrated a remarkable hole-in-one on the renowned 12th hole at The Grange.
Known as the “Watering Hole” since LIV’s inaugural event at the venue two years ago, the crowd eagerly showers players with drinks when they score an ace.
Reed certainly delivered on the first day of the event, landing his tee shot perfectly on the par-3, sending the grandstand into a frenzy.
In a twist of fate, commentator Jerry Foltz remarked on the crowd being “a little subdued early” at the 12th hole just as Reed prepared for his tee shot.

Just a few seconds later, both the commentators and the audience erupted into cheers as Reed’s ball found the bottom of the cup.
“Oh my goodness, Patrick Reed, you little beauty!” exclaimed Arlo White.
“An ace for the Four Aces in the opening hour of day one.”
“First Chase Koepka, and now Patrick Reed… we’re off and away in Adelaide.”
“It’s raining amber nectar at the watering hole!”
Chase Koepka, sibling of major champion Brooks, was the first to land an ace at the Watering Hole in 2023.
