Gold Coast Titans’ coach Des Hasler has assured that his “relationship is good” with the high-profile forward David Fifita, who recently found himself out of favour with the club.
Hasler confirmed that Fifita remains a part of the Titans’ long-term vision and dismissed speculation about his own potential departure during what has been a challenging period for the Queensland franchise.
A few weeks ago, Hasler made the decisive call to drop Fifita from the NRL squad due to a series of underwhelming performances.
The 25-year-old is now set to undergo surgery to rectify a persistent ankle problem, which Hasler anticipates will keep him sidelined for approximately a month.
Speculation about a rift between the two surfaced over the weekend, following a vague statement from Fifita regarding his exclusion from the top team.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Hasler refuted any claims of discord between him and Fifita.
“He plays a crucial role in our future plans, so getting him back on the field is imperative,” Hasler said.
“The timing of this surgery might actually be beneficial… it clears the way for us moving forward.”
“Our relationship is perfectly fine. Everything is good between us.”
“I can assure you that all is well. We’re progressing, though we aspire to improve further.”

“There are no problems here. He is integral to our plans.”
Reports surfaced this week suggesting that Fifita had been offered to rival clubs, but it remains unclear whether this was initiated by his management or the Titans.
News Corp also highlighted that Hasler’s contract includes clauses allowing him to leave the Titans at any time, yet he insists he has no intention of doing so.

“I love coaching, and while I’m enjoying it, I’m fully committed to the job,” he stated.
“It’s all part of the challenge; we’ve faced similar situations in the past. It’s about handling the pressure when things get tough and pushing through.”
This season, the Gold Coast Titans have only managed to secure two victories from eight games and have not reached the NRL finals since 2021.
Hasler has called upon fans to remain patient as the team works through their struggles.
“I urge our supporters to hang in there with us,” he emphasised.
“We’ve not used injuries as an excuse, nor do we wish to. We’re cognisant that we have been competitive during parts of our games; now we need to deliver a complete 80 minutes.”
“We’re starting to get players back into the squad, so please stay with us and be patient.”
The Titans will face off against Newcastle this Friday night.
