Brazil’s goalkeeper Alisson has left the national team to return to his club Liverpool following a head injury sustained during Thursday’s 2-1 victory over Colombia in a World Cup qualifying match, as confirmed by the Premier League club on Friday.
The incident occurred in the second half when Alisson collided with Colombia’s defender Davinson Sanchez, resulting in both players collapsing on the field. Medical personnel quickly attended to them, leading to substitutions for both athletes.
Reports indicate that the 32-year-old Alisson was taken off as a safety measure after experiencing dizziness from the impact.
“Alisson is on his way back to Merseyside and will receive an assessment from the medical team at Liverpool,” the club stated in their announcement.
Brazil currently holds the second position in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying standings, with the top six teams set to secure spots in next year’s tournament.
Liverpool, boasting a 12-point advantage at the summit of the Premier League table, will face Everton on April 2.
