Australia’s Alex de Minaur has been eliminated from the Miami Open after a dramatic fourth-round match against former top-10 player Matteo Berrettini.
Berrettini saved six set points in the second set, as de Minaur struggled to capitalise on his chances, ultimately failing to push the match into a deciding third set at the Masters 1000 tournament.
The final score was 6-3, 7-6 (9-7) in favour of Berrettini, with the encounter taking place at Hard Rock Stadium.

Berrettini got off to a strong start, breaking de Minaur in his opening service game and quickly establishing a 3-0 advantage.
Despite Berrettini facing two breakpoints in the ninth game, he maintained his lead to take the first set 6-3.
The second set was a thrilling affair, with de Minaur racing to a 5-4 lead and even holding a 40-love advantage at one point. However, the Italian powerhouse responded resiliently, saving four match points and ultimately clinching the set in a tiebreaker after two hours of intense play.
Despite leading 6-3 in the tiebreak, Berrettini rallied back, denying de Minaur his chance for an impressive 18th victory of the year.
With a total of 27 unforced errors, this defeat marked de Minaur’s second straight exit in the fourth round of a Masters 1000 event.
His departure ended hopes of a potential all-Australian quarter-final against compatriot Adam Walton, who was later defeated by American third seed Taylor Fritz with a score of 6-3, 7-5.
Berrettini, currently ranked 30th in the world—his best position since 2022—will next compete against Fritz in the quarter-finals.
This marks Berrettini’s first appearance in the quarter-finals at a Masters 1000 event since Madrid in 2021, and his first time reaching the last eight in Miami.
