Al Ahly midfielder Emam Ashour will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2025 Club World Cup following scans that revealed a broken collarbone, as confirmed by the Egyptian club on Sunday.
Ashour exited the opening match of the newly formatted competition against Inter Miami, which concluded in a 0-0 stalemate, visibly upset after sustaining a shoulder injury.
“Medical tests conducted on Emam Ashour at a Miami hospital have confirmed a broken collarbone, meaning he will miss the rest of the Club World Cup,” stated Al Ahly’s doctor, Ahmed Gaballah, via the club’s social media account.
Having previously faced a severe shoulder injury while playing for the Egyptian national side in 2024, Ashour fell awkwardly early in the match and received treatment on the sidelines before briefly returning to the field, where he squandered a one-on-one opportunity.
Ultimately, the 27-year-old, who was the top scorer in the Egyptian Premier League, found himself unable to continue and requested to be substituted in the 14th minute, making way for teammate Ahmed Sayed (Zizo).
