Ajax coach Francesco Farioli declined to discuss the possibility of claiming the title following their 2-0 victory over PSV on Sunday.
With the win in Eindhoven, Ajax now hold a nine-point advantage over PSV, with just seven matches left in the Eredivisie season. Goals from Davy Klaassen and Bertrand Traore proved decisive in this important fixture. Nevertheless, the Italian manager is firmly resisting any conversations regarding a potential championship.
“There are still 21 points up for grabs,” Farioli stated to ESPN post-match. “We effectively managed the finer details of the game. We were able to control the match. PSV fought hard to create opportunities, but we successfully nullified their chances and converted ours.”
Historically, no team in Eredivisie has squandered a nine-point lead with seven games still to play, giving Ajax a significant opportunity to secure their 37th title. “We currently have 67 points and must keep pushing forward. Our points total is impressive. We’ve managed to defeat both Feyenoord and PSV twice. That’s a remarkable achievement for this squad.”
