Collingwood legend Tony Shaw has voiced his frustration regarding the management of Brisbane defender Jack Payne’s serious knee injury, sustained during his team’s 107-96 defeat to GWS.
Payne ruptured his patella tendon while attempting to mark the ball, necessitating the use of a stretcher to carry him off the field.
However, play was halted for more than 10 minutes as the stretcher was initially directed towards the Brisbane change rooms but was unable to proceed.
Brisbane stalwart Alastair Lynch provided live commentary on the situation as it unfolded.

“That’s the access point for the Lions’ change rooms; unfortunately, they can’t get through there. There’s a bit of confusion at the moment,” Lynch remarked to Fox Footy.
“It appears they’ll have to take him down the other side where the curators are located.”
Shaw, who was also observing the incident, was appalled by the apparent disorganisation and expressed sympathy for the injured Payne.
“The cart driver seemed unsure where to take him, and this should have been arranged more effectively,” Shaw stated during a segment on 3AW.
“This situation isn’t acceptable. They brought them over to one area and then redirected them from another spot.”
“This needs to be improved; whoever is overseeing the Gabba must get this sorted out.”
“Even the crowd’s reactions suggest they’re poorly handling the situation.”

It was a challenging day for the Lions, who continued their dip in form.
Inaccuracy had cost them against Adelaide the previous week, compounded by losses to Melbourne and a draw with North Melbourne across their last five outings.
They struggled in front of goal, missing several opportunities as GWS key forwards Jesse Hogan and Aaron Cadman combined for an impressive 11 goals.
Young Brisbane star Logan Morris tallied five goals himself, but he was the only player to kick multiple goals for the Lions.
Lachie Whitfield was a standout for GWS, racking up 33 disposals, while Lachie Neale contributed with 25 possessions and a goal.
