Adelaide United icon Carl Veart has swiftly transitioned to his next coaching role, as he takes the reins as head coach of the Subway Joeys following his departure from the Reds.
Veart steps in to lead the Under-17 national team after a successful five-year stint at Adelaide, where he recorded three Semi-Final appearances and played a pivotal role in the development of emerging talents such as Nestory Irankunda, Mo Toure, and Ethan Alagich.
Prior to this, the 55-year-old gained valuable experience as the assistant coach of the Young Socceroos and held a similar position with the Joeys back in 2012.
“Carl was successfully appointed amidst a highly competitive recruitment process, highlighting both his personal attributes and the wealth of coaching talent within Australian and international football,” remarked Football Australia Interim CEO Heather Garriock.
“His impressive record as both player and coach is well-documented, and we are fully confident in Carl’s capability to spot and develop talent in a high-performance setting.
“The expertise he brings from the A-League, along with his prior involvement with our junior national teams and his coaching experience within the South Australian development framework, provides Carl with a unique perspective on how these programs can effectively interact to foster player growth and progression.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Carl to Football Australia and eagerly anticipate the contributions he will make along our development pathway.”

Veart expressed enthusiasm about his new role: “It’s a fantastic opportunity to be involved in the national team pathway and help shape the next generation of Socceroos.
“I’ve been fortunate to work with many players early in their careers, witnessing their growth and development both at club and national levels. It fills me with pride to see not only their successes on the field but also the young men they become off it.

“The Subway Joeys represent the foundational step for any player aspiring to don the green and gold of the senior national team. We play a crucial role in launching their careers and equipping them with the necessary tools for success.
“I’m excited to head to Melbourne for the Emerging Socceroos Championships and eager to collaborate with our staff in preparation for September.”
Veart concluded his tenure at Adelaide following the Isuzu UTE A-League 2024-25 season, with the club acknowledging his contributions as they opted for a new direction.
The club has since appointed youth development expert Airton Andrioli as the new head coach, with preparations for the upcoming season already underway alongside assistant coaches Adrian Stenta and Reds legend Isaias.
