One of rugby league’s most iconic rivalries is set to make a comeback this year, as the Kangaroos are scheduled to embark on a tour of England for the first Ashes series in over twenty years.
The ARL Commission announced on Wednesday night that the three-match series will unfold in October and November.
This will be the first official rugby league Ashes series since 2003.
“We take immense pride in bringing back one of rugby league’s quintessential traditions with the inaugural Ashes series and Kangaroo tour of England in 22 years,” stated Peter V’landys.

“The ARLC is committed to fostering the international game, and we wholeheartedly support this historic tour to enhance the game’s presence in the North. Kangaroo tours are a legendary element of rugby league history and have consistently showcased exhilarating match-ups.
“The current crop of Kangaroos players has yet to experience the thrill of a Kangaroo tour, and I’m thrilled they will have the opportunity to etch their names in history alongside the legends of yesteryear.”
This series is a significant boost for the English rugby league as well, with matches set to take place at some of the country’s most illustrious venues.
The first match is scheduled to occur at Wembley Stadium on October 25 (AEDT), followed by a game at the newly constructed Everton Stadium on November 1.
The series will culminate at Headingley Stadium on November 9.
Head coach Mal Meninga, who participated in a record four Kangaroo tours during the 1980s and 1990s, believes this will serve as a vital preparatory step ahead of the upcoming World Cup.

“The Ashes series between Australia and England represents the foundation of our international game. I believe it is the pinnacle,” he shared with NRL.com following the announcement.
“We cherish the tradition, dating back to 1908 and 1909, yet we haven’t faced England since 2017, and it’s been since 2003 for the Ashes.
“Playing at Wembley, in the new venue at Everton – a first for any team – and returning to the historic Headingley, this is genuinely thrilling.”
