Motorsport Australia stands alongside the broader motorsport community in commemorating the life of Tim Miles, who sadly passed away last week.
The motorsport fraternity is in deep mourning following the unexpected loss of this cherished racing figure, entrepreneur, businessman, husband, and father.
In a statement issued by Miles’ family on Sunday evening, they expressed that the world has dimmed without Tim’s vibrant presence.
“His absence is profoundly felt by all who knew him, particularly his wife, Tracy, and daughters Caley and Erin,” the statement articulated.
“Tim was a devoted family man, often causing playful stress for Tracy with his latest motorsport purchases or escapades, all while proudly sharing the achievements of his daughters.”
“His passing will have a significant effect on another passion of his – the motorsport community, where he made his mark as a competitor, owner, supporter, and businessman for over 35 years.”
Miles was a highly regarded competitor in one-make Porsche racing (Carrera Cup) and GT events (GT World Challenge Australia). He had the opportunity to fulfil his dream of racing at the Le Mans 24 Hours, participating in the Mustang Challenge Invitational while paying tribute to his late family friend, Rod McElrea, with a special livery.
A committed advocate for local racers pursuing opportunities both in Australia and New Zealand, he supported talents like Matt Campbell and Jaxon Evans.
All these endeavours were a testament to Tim’s deep passion for motorsport.
Born in Ashburton on New Zealand’s South Island, Tim Miles, widely known as ‘Milesy’, had his hands on the wheel from an early age, aspiring to be a racing driver before shifting his focus to business and building a successful advisory firm, Miles Advisory Partners.
His entrepreneurial achievements greatly enriched both his racing pursuits and family life.
As a team owner, Miles was a founding member of the Supercars team Tasman Motorsport and a co-owner of Triple Eight.
He played a crucial role in the sale of Supercars in 2011 to Archer Capital and again in 2021 when it transitioned to Racing Australia Consolidated Enterprises.
“Tim was a captivating storyteller, blessed with a wonderful sense of humour, and genuinely interested in the lives of those around him, whether they were long-time friends or new acquaintances,” the statement continued.
“His loss will be deeply felt by his family and friends, the business community he was a part of, and the motorsport world he loved. Further details regarding the funeral will be shared in due course.”
“The Miles family requests privacy during this period and expresses gratitude to those who have reached out with support since Tim’s death.”
Motorsport Australia CEO, Sunil Vohra, remarked on Miles’ significant influence within the sport.
“Tim Miles was a remarkable figure in Australian motorsport, with contributions that went far beyond the racetrack,” Vohra stated.
“Our thoughts are with the Miles family during this challenging time.”
Tim Miles was 58 years old. Vale.
