Chelsea have struck an agreement to acquire English winger Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund, the Bundesliga outfit announced on Thursday. The 20-year-old is expected to finalise a seven-year contract, with the transfer reportedly valued at £55 million.
Both clubs are currently participating in the Club World Cup in the United States, where they have progressed to the quarter-finals. The deal was reached in Fort Lauderdale, with some contractual specifics yet to be finalised.
Gittens joined Dortmund’s youth ranks in 2020 after transferring from Manchester City, making his senior debut in 2022. He has since clocked up 107 appearances for the German side across all competitions, netting 17 goals.
“Jamie Gittens’s journey is a testament to the nurturing of elite talent at Borussia,” stated Dortmund’s managing director, Lars Ricken, in a club release.
“We identified Jamie early on, essentially signing him for next to nothing. We have continuously developed his skills at our youth performance centre and have also provided him with valuable first-team experience.
“Jamie has reciprocated the faith shown in him with his dedication, performances, and goals.”
Chelsea are seeking to bolster their left flank after deciding against permanently securing Jadon Sancho’s loan from Manchester United.
