Chelsea have bolstered their attacking options this summer with the acquisition of Brazilian forward Joao Pedro from Brighton & Hove Albion on an eight-year contract, reportedly valued at around £55 million.
Joao Pedro joins fellow striker Liam Delap, previously of Ipswich Town, at the Blues, who are currently competing in the Club World Cup quarter-finals and are set to face Palmeiras early Saturday morning European time (03:00 CET).
A product of the Fluminense academy, the Brazilian international has prior experience in London, having signed with Watford in 2019. He made a move to Brighton in 2023 for a fee of €34.2 million, during which he played 58 matches in the Premier League and found the net 58 times.
He will integrate into the squad immediately and is eligible for Friday’s Club World Cup match.

Discussing his transfer on Chelsea’s official website, he remarked: “Everyone knows this is a big club with a great history.”
“They’ve had incredible players in the past and continue to do so now. I am thrilled to join, as you know that being a Chelsea player means having one goal in mind – to win.”
Joao Pedro also revealed that his decision was swayed by former Chelsea defender David Luiz.
He added: “I maintain a good relationship with David Luiz. I spoke to him, not specifically about Chelsea, but about my career and ways I could improve. He was very helpful.”
