Wellington Phoenix have announced the exit of three first-team players in the lead-up to the new Isuzu UTE A-League season, with Stefan Colakovski, Dublin Boon, and Francisco ‘Chico’ Geraldes all making their departures.
Colakovski, who joined the Phoenix from Perth Glory ahead of the 2024-25 season, made just six appearances before suffering a serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the campaign.
“I want to extend my gratitude to all the fans for their unwavering support,” Colakovski remarked following the announcement of his release.
He added, “I truly wish things could have panned out differently!”
On the other hand, Portuguese midfielder Geraldes joined the Phoenix on loan from Malaysian club Johor Darul Ta’zim F.C. during the mid-season transfer window. He made five starts but faced a knee injury that prevented him from competing in the last five matches of the season.

“My time in Wellington was amazing,” stated Geraldes, a product of the Sporting CP academy.
“I would have loved to stay, but sadly things didn’t align.”
Reserve goalkeeper Boon is also set to leave Sky Stadium without having made any senior appearances last season, as he was behind Josh Oluwayemi and Alby Kelly-Heald in the goalkeeping hierarchy.
“I’m incredibly thankful for the opportunity I received at the Phoenix,” Boon expressed.

“It was a fantastic year for my personal development, and I’m particularly grateful to Ruben [Parker] for his time and effort in my goalkeeping training.”
The exits of Colakovski, Geraldes, and Boon follow on from the departures of defenders Scott Wootton and Sam Sutton, who both signed with Perth Glory.
Additionally, A-League legend Kosta Barbarouses has also left Wellington Phoenix to join Western Sydney Wanderers on a one-year deal.

“It’s disappointing that we didn’t get to see more of all three in Phoenix colours,” commented Wellington Phoenix Director of Football, Shaun Gill.
“Injuries unfortunately cut both Stefan’s and Chico’s promising seasons short, while Dublin was overshadowed by two exceptional goalkeepers competing for the starting position.
“All three were great teammates and contributed positively off the pitch as well.
“We wish Stefan and Chico a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing them back on the field in the future.
“I’m confident Dublin has gained valuable experience during his first professional season, and his career is just beginning.”
