Adelaide United has enlisted club icon and beloved figure Isaías Sánchez as their new assistant coach for the Isuzu UTE A-League, securing him on a two-year contract.
A recent announcement regarding his retirement, effective at the conclusion of the Isuzu UTE A-League 2024-25 season, marks a new chapter for the Spanish ace as he re-dons the Reds’ colours to collaborate with newly appointed head coach Airton Andrioli.
The 38-year-old boasts an impressive tally of 289 appearances during two separate stints with Adelaide, setting a record that stands unmatched in the club’s history. He brings a depth of expertise and a proven track record, having achieved the Premiership/Championship double with the Reds in the 2015-16 season.

“Adelaide United has played a significant role in my life for over ten years, and I feel incredibly fortunate to remain involved in the club’s journey,” expressed the Spaniard.
“It’s a real honour to take on this new role, and I look forward to collaborating with Airton and the coaching team as we strive to build something extraordinary together.”

As Adelaide’s all-time leader in appearances and a four-time recipient of the Aurelio Vidmar Medal, Isaías holds a UEFA B license and is ready to embark on his coaching journey.
This follows the club’s decision to bring Andrioli on board after parting ways with former head coach Carl Veart. Isaías joins Adrian Stenta, a former A-League coach who has shifted from the women’s team to take on the role of men’s assistant coach.
“Isaías truly represents the spirit and principles of Adelaide United,” stated technical director Ernest Faber.
“His shift from player to coach is a seamless transition, and I’m excited to have him assist Airton and Adrian as we start this new chapter.
“His wealth of experience and insight will play a crucial role in the development of our squad and in our ongoing commitment to fostering South Australian talent.”
