The Western Sydney Wanderers have officially welcomed back defender Phillip Cancar, who has signed a one-season contract with the club.
At just 24 years of age, Cancar began his professional journey with the Wanderers, where he made 12 appearances in the iconic Red and Black before embarking on a new chapter at Livingston FC in the Scottish Premiership.
He later returned to Australia to play for the Newcastle Jets, showcasing his skills with 43 appearances over three seasons in the Isuzu UTE A-League.
On his return to Wanderland, Cancar shared his enthusiasm about rejoining the team where his professional career took off.
“This club is home to me,” Cancar remarked.
“I made my debut here, and after chatting with the coach (Alen Stajcic), I was completely on board. We’re heading in the right direction, and I’m eager to be part of it.”
“My ambitions are to win and act as a leader on the pitch, but equally important, I want to be a positive influence off the pitch and give back to the fans and community for all their support.”
Cancar is the latest player to join the Wanderers since the conclusion of the Isuzu UTE A-League 2024-25 season, following the signings of Kosta Barbarouses from Wellington Phoenix and Steven Ugarkovic from Melbourne City.
“Phillip is a fantastic addition to our squad,” stated Wanderers head coach Stajcic.
“He understands the essence of this club and brings the right attitude. We recognise his great potential as he aims to further his development, and we believe he will thrive in this environment.”
“He possesses the determination to enhance his skills and knows the expectations we have,” Stajcic continued. “We are excited to support his growth both as a player and as a leader.”
