Al Hilal’s captain, Salem Al-Dawsari, has been ruled out for the remainder of the Club World Cup due to a hamstring injury, as confirmed by the Saudi club on Saturday.
“Medical examinations have shown that Salem Al-Dawsari has sustained a hamstring injury. He will commence a treatment and rehabilitation programme that is expected to take between four to six weeks,” Al Hilal stated in an announcement via X.
This injury means that Al-Dawsari will not be available for the round of 16 fixture against Manchester City on Monday.
The forward played a crucial role in Al Hilal’s journey in the Club World Cup, having netted the opening goal in the team’s 2-0 triumph over Pachuca on Friday during the third round of the group stage.
This victory against Pachuca ensured that the four-time Asian champions advanced to the knockout stage after finishing second in Group H, trailing only Real Madrid.
