Juventus defender Nicolo Savona will be sidelined for the remainder of the Club World Cup following an ankle injury sustained during his team’s 5-2 defeat to Manchester City, the Italian club announced on Friday. The 22-year-old is expected to miss over a month of action.
Savona had been a key player for Juventus, starting all three group matches before leaving the field in the 60th minute after twisting his ankle in Thursday’s challenging loss. He was replaced by Federico Gatti.

Following diagnostic examinations on his left ankle, Juventus confirmed that Savona has suffered a high-grade capsular ligament injury. He has commenced his rehabilitation programme and will undergo a further assessment in a month.
The defeat against City saw Juventus finish second in Group G, setting them up for a challenging last-16 encounter against Real Madrid on Tuesday in Miami. Gatti, who filled in for Savona during Juve’s first match against Al Ain, is expected to step into the back three for coach Igor Tudor.
