Abdoulaye Faye, a 20-year-old centre-back from Hacken, is set to leave the Swedish club to join Bundesliga powerhouse Bayer Leverkusen, who have had a €3 million offer accepted by the Svenska Cupen champions.
Faye is among six new signings confirmed for Leverkusen as they prepare for the 2025/26 season, marking a fresh chapter under Erik ten Hag following Xabi Alonso’s switch to Real Madrid.
The defender joined Hacken from Diambars FC in Senegal in 2023 and was initially loaned to Orgryte in 2024 before making his debut for Hacken in the Svenska Cupen this February.
He netted a goal on his debut against Oster and followed it up with another against Mjallby in March. Faye made six appearances in the Allsvenskan but sustained an injury in April that has kept him out of action since. This unfortunate setback meant he missed the cup final triumph over Malmo in May.
Despite only having 11 appearances to his name, Faye managed to capture the attention of Bayer’s decision-makers. Although they will lose him before the start of their UEFA Europa League qualification campaign next month, the Wasps take pride in one of their young talents attracting interest from a club of such stature.
“Transferring one of our players to a leading club in Europe is another significant achievement for us and shows that our approach is working,” stated Hacken’s football manager, Martin Ericsson.
Faye expressed heartfelt gratitude towards Hacken, emphasising, “I’ve gained invaluable experience both on and off the pitch since arriving from Senegal. The support I’ve received has been instrumental in my development. The environment here is wonderful, the people are friendly, and BK Hacken has truly felt like home to me.”
Hacken will resume their Allsvenskan campaign after the midsummer break on Sunday against GAIS.
