Beginning in 2026, it’s anticipated that visiting supporters will once again be permitted at the much-anticipated “New Firm” derbies in Copenhagen, featuring FC Copenhagen and Brøndby IF, as stated by the Danish Superliga organisers in an official announcement.
Since the last encounter between the two teams in October 2024, away fans have faced an indefinite ban.
“With the forthcoming measures and the legislative options expected to be implemented from January 1, our intent is to welcome fans from both clubs back to all matches in 2026, provided the conditions remain stable,” remarked Claus Thomsen, director of “Divisionsforeningen.”
As part of these initiatives, a facial recognition system is in the works. “Divisionsforeningen” has sought approval from the Norwegian Data Protection Authority for its implementation.
Moreover, several legislative actions are in the pipeline from the Ministry of Justice aimed at empowering the police to impose immediate suspensions, while clubs will need to collaborate on sharing video surveillance systems.
“We are optimistic about the introduction of stricter laws targeting the small faction of troublemakers who spoil the experience for the majority,” said Claus Thomsen.
“These individuals must be recorded in the national registry, enabling clubs to monitor them effectively and ensure they are kept away from the stadium.”
