The head coach of Adelaide United, Airton Andrioli, has expressed that Awer Mabil is always “welcome back” to the Isuzu UTE A-League after the former Reds standout indicated his eagerness to return to Coopers Stadium.
Currently playing for Spanish second-tier club CD Castellon, Mabil has spent the last decade in Europe, having made a name for himself with his hometown club, Adelaide.
Before venturing overseas in 2015, the forward, who represents the Socceroos, developed through Adelaide’s youth academy and emerged as one of the most tantalising talents in the A-Leagues, notably contributing to the Reds’ triumph in the 2014 Australia Cup.

In a recent interview with aleagues.com.au, Mabil expressed his enthusiasm about the prospect of returning to Adelaide.
When asked about the 28-year-old’s expressions, the new Reds coach Andrioli remarked to reporters: “Absolutely, a player of that calibre is always welcome back.”
“He’s a local. I’ve known Awer for many years now.”
“If a player like him becomes available, the club will certainly be keen to explore that option.”

Another Socceroo has already made his way back to Adelaide this off-season, with Reds legend Craig Goodwin returning after a spell with Saudi Pro League side Al-Wehda.
Since taking over from Reds icon Carl Veart, Andrioli stated: “We’re absolutely thrilled with our squad.”
“Naturally, in football, one has to continually keep an eye out for players who might become available.”
“There are a few positions where we would consider bringing in someone if they become available. That said, having Craig back is a fantastic situation for us. His wealth of experience is invaluable, and he understands the landscape thoroughly. He is a fully professional player who can undoubtedly support our younger talents.”
“We’re pleased with the rest of the squad. We have a solid mix of experienced players and emerging talents.”
