RB Leipzig have announced the appointment of Ole Werner as their new head coach, signing him to a contract that runs until 2027. The Bundesliga club made the news public on Tuesday.
This decision concludes Leipzig’s prolonged search for a permanent successor following their split with Marco Rose in March. Interim manager Zsolt Low took charge for the remainder of a campaign that ultimately saw the team finish disappointingly in seventh place in the league.
The 37-year-old Werner recently opted against extending his contract with Werder Bremen and will now lead a Leipzig squad that will be exclusively focused on domestic competitions next season, having missed out on European qualification for the first time since 2016.
“Ole is a young and highly ambitious head coach who will take significant strides in his development with us,” said RB Leipzig’s managing director, Marcel Schafer, in a statement.
“RB Leipzig embodies a daring, attacking style of football coupled with a clear identity, alongside professional and ambitious objectives,” Werner stated.
“The club has substantial goals and lofty expectations, which is precisely the kind of atmosphere that inspired me and to which I am eager to contribute.”
