Hawthorn and Sydney legend Lance Franklin has voiced his belief that Carlton will dismiss coach Michael Voss before the season concludes, insisting that such a decision should be made in the coming weeks.
This sentiment follows the club’s disappointing defeat to North Melbourne over the weekend, leaving the Blues two games adrift of the top eight.
Having experienced finals football in 2023 and 2024, Carlton’s recent losses to Richmond and North Melbourne have significantly dampened their hopes of returning to September action.
Franklin is optimistic about the talent within the club but attributes the current struggles to Voss’s failure to effectively communicate with the players.
“I’m going to make a bold statement here; I don’t think he’ll last the year,” Franklin remarked during an appearance on The Buddy & Shane Show.
“I genuinely believe they have a solid roster, but the problem lies in the messaging not reaching the players.”
“A change is necessary, and while we often advocate for the players and coaches, I think this change is urgent as the current communication isn’t effective.”
“I believe many Carlton supporters would echo these sentiments. I’m probably voicing their concerns. Change is needed, and I anticipate it happening within a few weeks.”

In a press conference on Monday, Carlton captain Patrick Cripps came to Voss’s defence amidst rising frustration from fans.
“I have the utmost respect for ‘Vossy’ as a coach, mentor, and friend,” Cripps stated.
“He invests an incredible amount of effort, alongside the entire coaching staff. They are all very much aligned.”
“We’re in this together — no finger-pointing or blame-shifting. It’s crucial for us, especially as players, to take full ownership of the situation right now.”
“(Voss) has been instrumental in our progress for quite a while, and as players, we must step up our game.”
Carlton is set to take on Port Adelaide on Thursday night, looking to rebound from their recent subpar performance.
