Morgan Smithies, a forward for the Raiders, may find himself facing consequences following a suspected headbutt directed at Fonua Pole.
With just 20 minutes remaining in the game, Smithies collided with Api Koroisau, positioned 25 metres from the try line on the third tackle.
As this unfolded, Pole and Alex Twal entered the fray from the sidelines. It appeared that Pole’s impact was his shoulder making contact with Smithies’ head.

In response, Smithies retaliated by swinging his head towards Pole.
While Pole got to his feet with a smile, Smithies engaged in a verbal exchange.
It wasn’t long before Smithies was seen with blood trickling down his face.

Interestingly, the referee chose not to penalise Smithies for the incident, and the Bunker opted not to intervene either.
However, this does not preclude the match review committee from taking action if they see fit.
Smithies was not initially positioned to tackle but joined in on the third attempt.

In the subsequent tackle, Smithies attempted to wipe the blood from his face while continuing to run for the remainder of the set.
When the Raiders regained possession, Jed Stuart knocked the ball on after the first tackle, prompting Smithies to receive attention from Canberra’s trainer.
Play was halted as both teams waited for him to rejoin the scrum.
