The preliminary schedule for the 2025/26 Eredivisie season has been unveiled, providing a glimpse of the upcoming campaign.
As revealed on Tuesday, the 70th season of the Eredivisie will commence on Friday, August 8, with Fortuna Sittard facing off against Europa League competitors Go Ahead Eagles.
Feyenoord will be the first of the ‘Big Three’ to take to the pitch, hosting NAC Breda in their season opener on Saturday. Later that evening, reigning champions PSV will begin their title defence with a home match against Sparta Rotterdam, the same team they overcame to secure their 26th league title last May. Ajax rounds off the first weekend, playing at home against newly promoted side Telstar on the following day.
FC Volendam, who clinched the Eerste Divisie championship, will head to Frisia to take on Heerenveen. Meanwhile, Excelsior, the last of the promoted teams, will travel to Nijmegen for a clash with NEC. Play-off victors AZ will host FC Groningen in a compelling first-day fixture, while FC Twente, who finished as runners-up in the play-offs, will remain in the Eastern region to battle PEC Zwolle. Fourth-placed FC Utrecht will begin their season at home against Heracles Almelo.
Interestingly, Feyenoord’s campaign will kick off with five consecutive home matches. After their opener against NAC, they will face local rivals Excelsior and Sparta before hosting Fortuna Sittard and sc Heerenveen in rounds three and five, respectively.
The first marquee encounter of the season will take place in round six, as PSV welcomes Ajax— a rematch of last season’s unexpected 2-0 defeat that could have derailed PSV’s championship hopes.
The two sides will meet again later in the season, with their next showdown slated for the first weekend of May. This marks the beginning of a tough finish for PSV, who will conclude their season with an away match against Go Ahead Eagles followed by a home game against FC Twente.
As per tradition, the final two rounds will see all nine fixtures played simultaneously. Unlike last season, however, round 33 will occur the weekend prior to round 34, rather than on the final Wednesday of the season.
