The proposed schedule for the 2025/26 Eredivisie season has now been unveiled.
On Tuesday, it was confirmed that the 70th edition of the Eredivisie will commence on Friday, August 8, featuring a match between Fortuna Sittard and the Europa League representatives, Go Ahead Eagles.
The first of the ‘Big Three’ to take to the pitch will be Feyenoord, as they kick off their campaign on Saturday with a home match against NAC Breda. The reigning champions, PSV, will start their season later that same evening, welcoming Sparta Rotterdam, a team they overcame to claim their 26th league title in May. Ajax will follow suit on Sunday with a home fixture against the newly promoted Telstar.
FC Volendam, champions of the Eerste Divisie, will make their way to Frisia to take on Heerenveen. Excelsior, the final team to gain promotion, will visit Nijmegen to face NEC. In a compelling first-round battle, play-off winners AZ will host FC Groningen, while losing finalists FC Twente will remain in the East to challenge PEC Zwolle. FC Utrecht, who finished fourth last season, will launch their campaign at home against Heracles Almelo.
Interestingly, Feyenoord’s season will commence with five consecutive matches held in Rotterdam. Following their opener against NAC, they will clash with local rivals Excelsior and Sparta before welcoming Fortuna Sittard and sc Heerenveen in rounds three and five, respectively.
The first major matchup is set for round six, as PSV will host Ajax in a rematch of last season’s unexpected 2-0 defeat that nearly cost PSV the title.
The two clubs are also scheduled to meet again much later in the season, with their next encounter marked for the first weekend of May, kicking off a challenging run for PSV, which concludes with an away fixture against Go Ahead Eagles and a home game against FC Twente.
As per tradition, the last two rounds will feature all nine matches being played simultaneously. However, unlike last season, round 33 will take place over the weekend prior to round 34 rather than on the final Wednesday of the season.
