Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy expressed that he has no regrets regarding the appointment of Ange Postecoglou, as he defended the decision to part ways with the Australian manager.
Postecoglou led Spurs to their first trophy in 17 years by clinching the Europa League title last month.
However, that achievement was insufficient to retain his position after the team finished 17th in the Premier League.
The move to dismiss the former Celtic manager and bring in Thomas Frank has sparked strong criticism from many Tottenham supporters.
Nevertheless, Levy reiterated his vision for Spurs to eventually become champions in both the Premier League and the Champions League.
“I don’t regret hiring Ange; I’m truly thankful for what he achieved. We finished fifth in his first season and were absolutely thrilled to win a trophy in his second,” Levy shared with the club’s in-house media.
“However, we need to be competitive across all fronts and felt a change was necessary.
“It was an emotional decision, but we believe it’s the right choice for the club.”
Tottenham have not lifted the top-flight title since 1961 and have never won the Champions League.
“Winning a European trophy is a fantastic accomplishment, but it’s not enough,” Levy added.
“What we haven’t achieved is of greater importance. We need to clinch the league title. We aspire to win the Premier League and the Champions League. We want to be champions.”
Levy has been at the helm of Tottenham for over 25 years, with Frank now becoming the 13th permanent manager in that span.
“Every time a new coach comes in, it signifies a fresh beginning. They usually bring new ideas, and we aim to build on the success of our trophy win last season,” he noted.
“One thing that impressed me about Thomas is his intelligence and his ability to communicate effectively, along with all the technical skills that are undeniably crucial.”
