The Ninja A-League champions, Melbourne City, have announced that Canadian forward Kathryn Harvey and young goalkeeper Sophia Varley will leave the club at the end of their contracts.
At just 21 years of age, Varley has been part of City for four of the last five seasons. However, with an influx of experienced goalkeepers over the years, she struggled to secure the top spot, clocking in only one senior appearance.

Harvey joined the team for the 2024-25 season, making 15 appearances that contributed to City claiming the 2024-25 Premiership title. She made an impressive debut, scoring twice against Perth Glory in Round 1 and adding another goal against Canberra United in December. Unfortunately, despite her initial success, she found it tough to remain in head coach Michael Matricciani’s strongest line-up towards the latter part of the season.
Both Harvey and Varley now join Rhianna Pollicina on the list of players departing from City’s Premiership-winning squad, as the team gears up for another season in pursuit of more silverware in 2025-26.
