Real Madrid is currently monitoring the situation of Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate at Anfield.
With just over a year remaining on his contract, Konate may choose to let his deal lapse and depart for the Spanish giants next summer on a free transfer.
Marca reports that Real Madrid officials are keeping an eye on developments, potentially paving the way for a pre-contract offer for Konate to consider as soon as January.
The French international, Konate, addressed speculation at the end of the previous season, stating: “I just want to clarify one thing: Everything you saw on social media is entirely false.
“I never requested anything from the club. They made me an offer, and I simply responded. That’s all there is to it. The rest of the speculation that I want to wait until the end… all of that is completely fabricated.
“Even prominent journalists claimed in November that I was very close to signing a new deal. I thought: ‘Do they have more information than I do!?’, because that was not true at that time, which is why I felt a bit annoyed as it wasn’t accurate.
“I knew there would come a time when people might think I was reluctant to sign the contract, but I was never on the verge of signing anything. We will see what unfolds.
“Are we making progress? Not exactly. My agent did meet with the club last week, but I can’t disclose what was discussed. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.”
