Real Madrid is keeping a close eye on the situation of Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate at Anfield.
With just over a year remaining on his contract, there’s a possibility that Konate might allow his deal to expire and make a move to Real Madrid next summer on a free transfer.
According to Marca, executives at Real are monitoring developments closely, potentially gearing up to make a pre-contract offer for Konate to mull over in the coming months, with January marking the six-month window for negotiations.
Meanwhile, the France international made a statement at the conclusion of last season, asserting: “I want to say one thing: Everything circulating on social media is completely false.
“I didn’t ask the club for anything. They presented me with an offer, and I responded; that’s the extent of it. The speculation about me wanting to wait or have alternate desires is entirely fabricated.
“Even prominent journalists claimed in November that I was close to signing a new deal. I thought: ‘Do they have better information than I do?’ Because it simply wasn’t true back then, and it frustrated me because it was incorrect.
“I was aware that some might think I was reluctant to sign, but I was never in a position where I was close to finalising anything. We will see what unfolds.
“Progress? Not really, although my agent did have a meeting with the club last week. I’m not at liberty to disclose what was discussed, but we will just have to wait and see what happens.”
