Kasey Bos has experienced an incredible ascent since he made his debut last year. The team at aleagues.com.au is taking a closer look at his swift transition from Melbourne Victory to Bundesliga club Mainz.
A little over a year ago, Kasey Bos spoke with aleagues.com.au about his aspirations.
“I’ve got goals in mind. I hope to represent my country in the future,” he stated in May last year. “For now, my focus is on gaining consistent minutes in the A-League to build my confidence. I aim to follow in my brother’s footsteps and make a move to Europe.”
At that time, Bos had just started making appearances for the Melbourne Victory first team, having debuted in the Isuzu UTE A-League just three months earlier.

Now, fast forward to today, and the 21-year-old is indeed walking the same path as his older brother after securing a transfer to Europe.
In just 16 months since making his mark in Melbourne, Kasey Bos has signed with German Bundesliga club Mainz, the former home of notable managers Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel, echoing his brother Jordy’s journey.

“Kasey Bos is a powerful left winger who fits our desired profile exceptionally well with his combination of defensive and offensive skills, as well as his dynamic and fearless playing style,” commented Mainz’s sporting director Niko Bungert.
“He has already showcased his talent within the A-League. We are confident that with his potential, he can also adapt well to the Bundesliga and continue to thrive alongside an experienced professional like Phillipp Mwene.”
Just weeks ago, Kasey was competing in a historic Isuzu UTE A-League Grand Final at AAMI Park. Now, he’s settled in the Rhine-Main Metropolitan Region and has recently received his first call-up to the Subway Socceroos.
The swift rise for this academy graduate from Victory is significant, as he becomes the first Australian player to represent Mainz since Nikita Rukavytsya played there between 2011 and 2013.
Like his brother Jordy, who plays for Westerlo, Kasey also had a stint at Melbourne City.
The siblings shared time in the club’s academy setup, but after City’s move from Bundoora to Casey in 2021, they made the switch to rivals Melbourne Victory.

Bos marked his A-Leagues debut against Central Coast Mariners in February 2024, where he significantly contributed to Victory’s unforgettable Elimination Final comeback against his former club City last season.
He excelled while donning the navy blue of Melbourne Victory, playing a pivotal role in helping the team rise from NPL3 to the second tier of Victorian football in 2023.
After clocking up 43 minutes of A-League action in the 2023-24 season, he truly came into his own this year.
The promising Australian emerged as one of the competition’s most thrilling talents, netting four goals in 26 appearances, amassing a total of 2,102 minutes as Arthur Diles’ squad narrowly missed out on the Championship.
“Conversations with the sporting management were fantastic, and the city itself leaves a strong impression on me,” Bos reflected. “The Bundesliga is thrilling and the calibre of play is top-tier.”
“My teammate from Melbourne, Mitchell Langerak, has already shared some valuable insights. I’m really looking forward to getting acquainted with the team and the supporters while exploring Mainz further.”
