Brisbane Roar has embarked on a new chapter under the leadership of Michael Valkanis, kicking things off with the acquisition of Bosnian midfielder Milorad Stajic.
The youth international from Bosnia and Herzegovina has signed a two-year contract to compete in the Isuzu UTE A-League while stationed in Brisbane.
Valkanis, previously an assistant at Ajax and Greece, have taken the reins and marked Stajic as his inaugural signing. The midfielder joins from Serbian SuperLiga club FC Radnicki Niš, where he accumulated over 40 appearances in his two seasons.

A former youth player with Swiss powerhouse FC Basel, the 23-year-old defensive midfielder has also donned the colours of Switzerland at the youth level.
“I am thrilled to commit to Brisbane Roar for the upcoming two seasons,” stated Stajic, who is known for his ‘hard-working mentality, exceptional technical skills, and robust defensive attributes’.
“Brisbane is an absolutely stunning city to play football in, and I can’t wait to don the jersey and represent the amazing fans this season. I look forward to seeing everyone at the stadium.”
Valkanis, who has made history as an Australian coach, returns to the A-Leagues following a lengthy absence of over seven years to take over from Ruben Zadkovich.
The former head coach of Melbourne City and Adelaide United recently departed Turkish top-flight team Adana Demirspor in September and is eager to make an impact.
After finishing near the bottom of the league last season, Brisbane is keen on revamping their performance for the 2025-26 season.

“Bringing Milorad on board is a crucial step as we work to develop our squad,” remarked Valkanis.
“He’s a composed defensive midfielder with excellent ball control and tactical insight.
“His ability to distribute play and thwart opposing attacks is impressive, and I have no doubt that Milorad will quickly endear himself to the fans.”
