James Milner has inked a one-year contract extension with Brighton & Hove Albion, as announced by the south-coast club on Friday. The 39-year-old is keen to chase the all-time record for appearances in the Premier League.
Milner, who made his Premier League debut at just 16 years old with Leeds United back in 2002, had limited action in the 2024/25 season, featuring in only four league matches due to an injury incurred in August. This brings his overall Premier League appearances to 638.
As he approaches his 40th birthday in January, Milner now has the opportunity to surpass Gareth Barry’s record of 653 Premier League appearances.
“I’m delighted that James will be with us for another season,” said head coach Fabian Hurzeler in a statement.
“Last season, he couldn’t contribute on the pitch as much as he desired, but his experience around the squad is priceless, particularly for our younger players.
“He’s a fantastic individual to have in our setup, and he’s always there for me and the team. I’m eager to work with him again.”
Brighton finished eighth in the league last season, narrowly missing out on European competition.
