Auckland FC has officially confirmed that their star goalkeeper, Alex Paulsen, has returned to English Premier League side AFC Bournemouth after completing a season-long loan with the Black Knights.
The New Zealand international achieved an impressive league-high tally of 13 clean sheets across 28 matches, playing every minute of Auckland’s memorable Isuzu UTE A-League Premiership victory in the club’s inaugural season.
Paulsen made the move to Bournemouth in 2024 after a three-season stint at Wellington Phoenix, but subsequently returned to the Isuzu UTE A-League for a loan spell at Auckland FC.

The Isuzu UTE A-League Goalkeeper of the Year expressed heartfelt appreciation to the club as he readies himself for a return to Bournemouth and the Premier League.
“It’s been an incredible 12 months, far beyond what I ever envisioned,” Paulsen shared.
“I’ve had a fantastic experience, and I’m immensely thankful to the fans, my teammates, and the coaching staff who have supported me throughout this journey. They’ve truly contributed to my growth as both a player and a person.”
“I eagerly anticipate returning to Bournemouth and embracing the opportunities that lie ahead,” he added.
“However, I won’t forget my roots. I began my career with Onehunga Sports, and my friends and family are all here. Being able to play in Auckland and lift the Premiership Plate has meant the world to me. I’ve enjoyed every moment, particularly the time spent with fans after matches; that’s when you genuinely feel the love.”
Tiago Pinto, Bournemouth’s President of Football Operations, expressed excitement about working with Paulsen upon his anticipated return to the club in July.
“We are very much looking forward to welcoming Alex back to England,” Pinto stated.
“His individual success and that of Auckland during their inaugural A-League season are achievements to be celebrated.
“We are eager to work with Alex upon his arrival in Bournemouth in July and extend our gratitude to Auckland for playing a vital role in his development.”
