Manchester City has secured the signing of attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki from Olympique Lyonnais on a five-year agreement, as announced by the Premier League club on Tuesday ahead of this month’s Club World Cup.
While the specifics of the financial arrangement remain undisclosed, reports from the UK suggest that City has invested approximately 40 million euros to bring the 21-year-old French talent to their ranks.
Cherki enjoyed a standout season with Lyon during the 2024-25 campaign, netting 12 goals and providing 20 assists across all competitions.
“This is a dream come true for me. Honestly, joining a club like Manchester City and having the chance to take this significant step in my career is incredibly special,” Cherki expressed in a statement.
“I have dedicated myself to this moment my entire life. My passion for this sport runs deep, and I am eager to continue my development here in Manchester under Pep (Guardiola) and his coaching team.”
“I would only leave Lyon for a project that I truly believe in, and everything about City indicates that I can enhance my skills and contribute to the team’s success in the future. I can’t wait to demonstrate my abilities to the City fans.”
The newly capped France international, who can operate as both an attacking midfielder and right winger, scored during both legs of his team’s Europa League quarter-final, where they faced Manchester United in a thrilling 7-6 aggregate defeat.
City is set to commence their Club World Cup journey on June 18 against Moroccan side Wydad AC, followed by encounters with Emirati club Al Ain and Juventus.
