OL Lyonnes have announced the appointment of former Barcelona manager Jonatan Giraldez to succeed Joe Montemurro, as confirmed by the French women’s league champions.
Giraldez, who led Barcelona between 2021 and 2024, boasts an impressive record, having secured two Women’s Champions League titles, three league championships, two Copa de la Reina titles, and three Spanish Super Cups.
The Spaniard, who has inked a three-year deal, arrives at the French club after a stint with the NWSL’s Washington Spirit. Both clubs are part of the multi-club framework managed by Kynisca Sports International, owned by Michele Kang.
“The club’s rich history, ambitious vision, and talented roster present an incredible opportunity, and I am eager to build upon the club’s achievements as it embarks on this new chapter,” Giraldez remarked in a statement released on Monday.
OL Lyonnes, formerly Olympique Lyonnais Feminin, are widely recognised as the most successful women’s football club globally, holding a record eight Champions League titles.
Under Montemurro’s direction, who was appointed as the coach of the Australian women’s national team on Monday, Lyonnes clinched their 18th Premiere Ligue title in the 2024-25 season and advanced to the semi-finals of the Champions League.
