The chairman of Manchester City, Khaldoon Al Mubarak, has confirmed that potential signings have already been pinpointed and will be made prior to the Club World Cup.
Manager Pep Guardiola has stated he would “walk away” from the club if his squad wasn’t trimmed, especially after having to exclude several top players in the closing matches of the previous season.
Notwithstanding this, City has been linked with several notable targets including Morgan Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest, Tijjani Reijnders of AC Milan, and Lyon’s Rayan Cherki. This indicates that the club is gearing up to part ways with a number of players in the upcoming months, signalling a major overhaul of the squad.
Although City secured a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League, they unfortunately failed to claim any silverware last season, apart from the Community Shield, which Guardiola defended during one of his last press conferences.
Al Mubarak discussed the club’s aspirations for the transfer window on the official website, highlighting their intention to conduct transactions promptly before the Club World Cup, aiming to establish a squad that can perform better in the next season.
“I can assure you that we have clearly identified our targets, including exact positions, and we have our top choices in place,” he explained.
“We will proceed efficiently and swiftly. Our goal is to ensure the new squad is ready for the Club World Cup.”
He also expressed that there is a palpable desire within the squad to contend for the Premier League title and another Champions League trophy after what is considered a disappointing campaign by City’s usual standards.
In a message to the fans, he conveyed that lessons learned this past season will pave the way for a fresh start next year.
“We will make our return. This season is now in the past. Today marks a new beginning. We are already working and preparing for the next season.”
“In fact, we’ve been at this since January. We will take both the positives and the challenges from this season, learning and improving as we move forward.”
“I can assure you, this club is committed to restoring the high standards that we know we can achieve, and we will.”
