The Wallabies’ World Cup aspirations have received a significant boost with five-eighth Ben Donaldson extending his contract through to the end of 2027.
This year, Donaldson and Tom Lynagh are set to compete for the coveted Wallabies No.10 jersey as Noah Lolesio takes a brief stint in Japan.
Both players will have the chance to showcase their skills to the incoming coach Les Kiss in preparation for the World Cup hosted on home soil. Notably, Lynagh is under contract until the close of the 2026 season.
After a disappointing 2023 World Cup, Donaldson has joined the Force, following his earlier stint with the Waratahs in Super Rugby Pacific.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to commit myself to the Western Force and Australian Rugby,” Donaldson expressed in a statement.
“My two years here have been fantastic, and I’ve really enjoyed my time in WA. We’ve got an exceptional group of players at the Force, with the core of the team extending their contracts, which builds excitement for what we can achieve together.”
“I’m keen on remaining in Australian rugby, especially with the Lions Tour later this year and a Bledisloe Cup match in Perth on the horizon.”
“The prospect of the home World Cup in 2027 is also incredibly motivating.
“Having been part of the Wallabies squad recently, I’m proud to be part of such a strong team under a dedicated coaching staff, and I hope to continue contributing as we face important matches and events ahead.”
So far in his career, Donaldson has participated in 16 Tests for the Wallabies, making his debut against Italy in 2022.
Peter Horne, Rugby Australia’s director of high performance, expressed his delight at having the 26-year-old secure a two-year extension.
“Ben is a talented young player who exemplifies the effectiveness of the Australian Rugby pathways system,” he stated.
“He has gained valuable experience at both the Super Rugby Pacific and international levels, and we’re eager to see him continue to develop his game and apply his hard work.”
