Son Heung-min declared himself the “happiest man in the world” following his triumph with Tottenham as they secured the Europa League title, finally ending his long wait for silverware.
The South Korean forward, who has been part of Spurs for a decade, stands as the club’s fifth highest all-time goalscorer, but had yet to lift a trophy until their 1-0 win over Manchester United in Bilbao on Wednesday.
“Wow, I’m feeling amazing!” Son shared with TNT Sports.
“This is the day when my dream finally came true. Honestly, I’m the happiest man in the world.”
Notably, Son is the sole player from the Spurs squad that faced defeat in the 2019 Champions League final to feature in another European final six years later.
After a series of near misses over the last ten years, the 32-year-old admitted to feeling the weight of expectation.
“I definitely felt the pressure,” he admitted. “I wanted this so much. For the past week, I’ve been dreaming about this match every single day. It finally happened, and now I can breathe easy.
“Today is a day for celebration. I might even miss my flight home!“
The victory also guarantees Tottenham a spot in next season’s Champions League, despite currently sitting 17th in the Premier League after a challenging domestic campaign.
Son has garnered immense support from fans back home and expressed his gratitude to the Korean supporters who stayed up all night to witness his achievement.
“I’m incredibly proud to represent Korea. A huge thank you to my Korean fans.
“It was a 4am kick-off back home, and they supported me like crazy.”
