Manchester City midfielder Rodri made a surprising comeback to the squad for the Premier League clash against Bournemouth on Tuesday, having spent eight months sidelined with a knee ligament injury.
The return of the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner could provide a significant lift for City’s aspirations to secure a Champions League spot next season, especially with only two fixtures remaining in what has been a frustrating season for Pep Guardiola’s side.
The Spain international sustained the injury during City’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium back in September.
As City takes on Bournemouth, they find themselves just outside the Champions League qualification zone in sixth place, sitting on 65 points, but they do have a game in hand over Newcastle United, Chelsea, and Aston Villa, all of whom are at 66 points.
Club captain Kevin De Bruyne is also starting against Bournemouth, participating in his last match at the Etihad Stadium.
