Emily Husband, the head coach of the Central Coast Mariners, has earned her place in a select group following her victory in the Ninja A-League Championship.
Under her leadership, the Mariners triumphed in a nail-biting penalty shoot-out against Melbourne Victory during Sunday’s Grand Final, which concluded with a 1-1 scoreline after extra time.
This victory marks the Mariners’ inaugural Championship win, achieved in just their second season back in the competition after a 14-year absence.
With this achievement, Husband joins the ranks of only three other female coaches who have lifted the Championship trophy, following Jitka Klimkova (2012, Canberra United), Liesbeth Migchelsen (2014, Canberra United), and Jessica Fishlock (2016-17, Melbourne City – player/coach).
On Sunday, the English coach also made history as the first woman to manage a Ninja A-League Grand Final since Fishlock in 2017.
