As the season approaches its concluding three matches, Napoli stands atop the Serie A table. For the club’s supporters and their manager, Antonio Conte, this remains the singular focus, he stated on Saturday.
With a three-point advantage over Inter Milan, Napoli has enjoyed a campaign that has far exceeded expectations. However, speculation continues to swirl regarding Conte’s future at the club beyond this season.
During a press conference ahead of Sunday’s home match against Genoa, when asked if fans were inquiring about his future, Conte cleverly referenced a well-known Italian tune.
“Believe me, right now the fans aren’t posing that question to me,” Conte said, grinning.
“The supporters primarily express their gratitude and ask whether we’ll win. My response is that we will certainly give our utmost, just as we have been doing. That’s their main concern.
“Everything else? It’s all just noise, as Franco Califano put it, ‘Everything else is noise.’“
As Napoli prepares to face Genoa, they will kick off knowing the outcome of Inter’s match against Torino.
“There will undoubtedly be pressure, and we need to channel that in a constructive way to help us stay focused, motivated, and eager,” Conte remarked.
“I believe the final two games will kick off simultaneously, which could be advantageous.
“Whether we play first or later, the outcome remains unchanged; our focus must be solely on our match.“
Conte also provided insights regarding the players’ fitness.
“(Stanislav) Lobotka rejoined training yesterday and was on the pitch again today. He’ll undergo a fitness test tomorrow morning to ensure we make the right decision,” Conte explained.
“(David) Neres started partial training yesterday, and I think he could be included on the bench to enjoy the atmosphere once more.
(Alessandro) Buongiorno is still recovering, while Juan Jesus is eager to return. He claims he’s fit, but the medical staff are advising caution.
When asked about the key contributing factors to his Napoli side’s success, the manager said, “It all begins with the mindset.”
“Then there’s what the fans desire from us—the heart, which we possess in abundance—and lastly, the legs that need training. But it’s the mind that drives everything.”
