Chelsea secured their spot in the UEFA Conference League final with a 1-0 victory over Djurgarden in the second leg at Stamford Bridge, completing the tie with an aggregate score of 5-1. This win marks Chelsea’s fifth consecutive victory across all competitions.
The 4-1 win in Sweden last week provided Chelsea with a comfortable cushion, enabling coach Enzo Maresca to make several changes to the lineup, including a first start for 16-year-old Reggie Walsh.
In contrast, Djurgarden played to a 1-1 draw in the Swedish Allsvenskan over the weekend, which means they have managed just one win in their past four outings—a tough way to head into a match where they needed a remarkable comeback to advance.
The first half in London mirrored much of the previous leg, with Chelsea dominating possession right from the outset.
However, scoring opportunities were few and far between. The first significant save came from Djurgarden’s Jacob Rinne, who blocked a shot from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall taken from distance.
Tyrique George also had a shot parried away before the Blues all but confirmed their progression when Dewsbury-Hall struck the ball in off the post.
For Djurgarden, Keita Kosugi did manage to force a save out of Filip Jorgensen with his deflected effort, but they largely struggled to make their mark during the first half.
After the break, the away side appeared more aggressive and attempted to apply pressure on Chelsea’s defence.
Tobias Gulliksen came close with a shot that narrowly missed the target, and Daniel Stensson saw his effort tipped over by Jorgensen. Ultimately, however, any potential goal from Djurgarden would have only served as a cosmetic touch in the grand scheme of the tie.
For Chelsea, they have successfully achieved their primary objective as they advance to the final in Wroclaw, where they will face either Real Betis or Fiorentina. With UEFA Champions League qualification now within reach, Maresca and his team could be on track for a brilliant finish to the season. As for Djurgarden, they will look back on their impressive European campaign with pride as they redirect their focus to the domestic league, where they find themselves nine points off the top after six matches.
