Phil Gould, the general manager of Canterbury, chose to sidestep any commentary regarding Jacob Preston’s suspension as the Bulldogs star gears up to confront the NRL judiciary.
Preston has been charged with a grade one offence for a crusher tackle on Titans captain Tino Fa’asuamaleaui, which could result in a three-match suspension.
The Bulldogs have lodged a not guilty plea, yet they now face the possibility of a four-match ban at the judiciary hearing on Tuesday night. While Preston has been a strong contender for the NSW Blues, a four-game suspension would eliminate him from selection for the opening match.
During an appearance on Nine’s 100% Footy, Gould was asked to share his thoughts on the situation.

In response, he merely tapped his pen and maintained silence.
“There wasn’t much to it, to be honest,” Cameron Smith remarked, attempting to fill the void.
“The pressure on Tino’s head was minimal; he allowed space for his head to properly release. Tino got straight back up and, if memory serves, took the next hit-up.”
Paul Gallen chimed in, stating, “That’s an incredibly harsh penalty,” referring to the potential four-match suspension.

Later, Gould did come forward to mention that Fa’asuamaleaui had a conversation with the Bulldogs, apparently in support of Preston.
“He reached out for a chat,” Gould disclosed.
Furthermore, he confirmed he hasn’t spoken with Preston and delivered a trademark sarcastic quip about his non-appearance at the judiciary.
“I think it would do him a world of good if I showed up at the judiciary, wouldn’t it?” he smirked.
“Do you really think they’d want to see me down there?”
