Real Madrid’s manager Carlo Ancelotti has assured fans that his side will put up a strong contest against LaLiga leaders Barcelona in the upcoming “El Clasico” next Sunday, as the defending champions aim to close the four-point deficit with their fierce rivals.
The reigning champions earned a hard-fought 3-2 victory against Celta Vigo on Sunday, keeping their hopes of retaining the title alive as they approach the final stretch of the season.
Barcelona, on the other hand, have maintained an unbeaten streak over their last 15 league matches and triumphed over Real with a 3-2 win after extra time to lift the Copa del Rey just last weekend.
“We are going to prepare thoroughly and we’re ready to put up a good fight,” Ancelotti expressed during a post-match press conference.
“While it may not be a decisive match, it is definitely a crucial one.”
The coach pointed to injury issues as a reason behind Real Madrid’s inability to maintain a 3-0 lead, as Celta Vigo struck twice in quick succession, creating tension for the hosts.
“It’s important to remember that we were missing six defenders, and that complicates things for us. Yes, we could have managed the situation better, and we did endure some tough moments, but it’s still a satisfying win,” Ancelotti remarked.
Forward Rodrygo, who was sidelined during the Celta Vigo clash due to a fever, is expected to be available for the trip to Barcelona, according to Ancelotti, who noted he would have a week’s time to recover.
