Real Madrid’s manager Carlo Ancelotti has assured fans that his side will put forth a strong challenge against LaLiga table-toppers Barcelona in the upcoming “El Clasico” this Sunday, as the reigning champions aim to close the four-point gap between themselves and their fierce rivals.
The defending champions kept their title hopes alive with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Celta Vigo on Sunday, heading into the final four matches of the season.
Barcelona, on the other hand, are in formidable form, having gone 15 league matches without defeat, and clinched a 3-2 win over Real after extra time in the Copa del Rey final last weekend.
“We’re going to prepare thoroughly, and we intend to give it our all,” Ancelotti stated during a post-match press conference.
“While it may not be a decisive match, it’s certainly significant.”
The manager attributed Real’s inability to maintain a 3-0 lead to a string of injuries that left them vulnerable, as Celta Vigo struck back with two goals in quick succession, adding pressure on the home side.
“We were missing six defenders, and that definitely posed challenges for us,” Ancelotti explained. “Yes, we could have managed the situation better, and it was a bit of a struggle, but ultimately it was a commendable win.”
Forward Rodrygo, absent from the Celta Vigo clash due to illness, is expected to return to fitness in time for the fixture against Barcelona, Ancelotti noted.
